The 8th Model African Union (AU) Assembly Held

The Korea-Africa Foundation (President Kim Young-chae) and the National Assembly Forum for Africa (Chairman Rep. Hun-seung Lee) successfully hosted the 8th Model African Union(AU) Assembly on November 14 (Friday)~15 (Saturday) at the National Assembly Members’ Office Building. The event was supported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the African Union(AU), and the African Diplomatic Corps in Korea. 

This year’s Assembly brought together 56 delegates and chairs, along with around 20 African student mentors residing in Korea and Japan. Participants engaged in in-depth discussions from a youth perspective on two major agendas, △ A Common African Position on the Return of Illegally Removed Cultural Heritage During the Colonial Era, △ The Role of the African Union (AU) in Addressing Non-Traditional Security Threats in Africa and they adopted final outcome documents for each agenda. In particular, during this year’s Assembly, Aram Goliath, Education Officer of the Women, Gender and Youth Directorate of the African Union, delivered a lecture on the theme “Overview of the AU and the 2025 Theme of the Year,” which provided participants with a deeper perspective on this Model African Union (AU) Assembly.

Through two days of intensive discussions and evaluations, eight teams were selected for awards at the 8th Model AU Assembly: △ the Zambia Delegation and the Namibia Delegation (Minister of Foreign Affairs Award), △ the Gabon Delegation and the Kenya Delegation (Chairman of the National Assembly Forum for Africa Award), △ the Egypt Delegation and the Uganda Delegation (Dean of the African Diplomatic Corps in Korea Award), △ the Mali Delegation and the Ethiopia Delegation (Chairman of the Korea-Africa Foundation Award). In addition, the two teams receiving the Minister of Foreign Affairs Award will be granted the opportunity to visit the AU Headquarters in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, as part of their prize.
