2025 Diplomatic Public Data Utilization Contest Award Ceremony

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs held an award ceremony on Thursday, September 11, for the winners of the 2025 Diplomatic Public Data Utilization Contest.

The Diplomatic Public Data Utilization Contest has been jointly organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and its affiliated agencies since 2023. The contest aims to promote new entrepreneurship and the use and dissemination of public data by discovering innovative ideas, products, and services utilizing diplomatic public data.

This year, submissions for the Idea Planning category and the Product & Service Development category were accepted from May 19 to July 14, totaling 99 entries. In particular, this year’s contest saw ideas tailored to a wide range of users, including overseas students and travelers, local governments, and companies expanding overseas, resulting in especially meaningful outcomes.

The winning entries were selected through document and presentation evaluations based on criteria such as public data utilization and AI innovation. A total of five entries were chosen. The Grand Prize and Excellence Awards were presented with prize money by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, while the Encouragement Awards were presented by the Presidents affiliated agencies.

The Grand Prize winner, the SafetyCraft team, developed a comprehensive overseas safety service app that utilizes country-specific safety information and travel advisory data provided by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, along with AI technology, to offer location-based safety information, navigation, and emergency reporting. The app is scheduled for release. The Excellence and Encouragement Award winners also proposed various innovative ideas and services by combining diplomatic public data with related datasets.

Bae Jong-in, Director General of the Planning and Coordination Office at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated, “This year, ideas integrating AI technology stood out, and the service proposals demonstrated practical applications. Going forward, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will expand data openness and utilize AI technology to promote more transparent and efficient diplomatic activities.”
