From June 10 to 12, the Korea-Africa Foundation operated the Korean Pavilion at the Africa Food Show 2025, a B2B trade exhibition held in Cape Town, South Africa. The initiative aimed to create new business opportunities for Korean food and food-tech SMEs in the African market.
Africa Food Show, held annually at the Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC), is one of the continent’s leading F&B trade exhibitions. This year’s event welcomed over 350 companies from 29 countries and attracted more than 6,000 industry professionals, featuring the latest innovations in food, global distribution brands, and interactive programs such as chef live shows and tasting zones.
As part of the 2025 African Market Entry Support Program for Korean SMEs, the Foundation organized the Korean Pavilion in collaboration with So1ne Co., Open Sauce Lab, Orion, Nongshim, Gl, Kijami Table, Ilhwa, Daesang, Singsong Food, PMW Global. Comprehensive support was provided, covering booth setup, participation fees, airfare, and on-site interpretation. The pavilion featured a unified design and showcased each company’s flagship products. Some booths offered tastings and product demonstrations, attracting strong interest from local buyers.
Over the three-day exhibition, a total of 238 one-on-one business meetings were conducted, with several companies currently engaged in sample testing and export discussions with potential partners.
On June 9, prior to the exhibition, a pre-event program was held that included market research and industry site visits. Participants visited local retail stores to study consumer trends and attended a briefing from a South African bank on the regional consumer goods market. Meetings with a local food manufacturer and major distributors provided practical insight into distribution channels, pricing structures, and market entry strategies. The program was made possible through the support of the South African Chamber of Commerce in Korea (SAFCHAM) and Golden Thread Markets.
The Korea-Africa Foundation will continue to support Korean companies seeking to enter the African market through tailored local engagement and follow-up opportunities.
